007: First Light Will Make Combat a Core Gameplay Choice, Not Just a Backup
In a recent interview with PC Gamer, Andreas Krogh, Gameplay Director of 007: First Light, confirmed that the upcoming James Bond game will not treat combat as a minor fallback. Instead, it will stand as a core gameplay option alongside stealth.
Combat Is No Longer “Last Resort”
Krogh explained that in Hitman, combat often felt like a last resort—something players avoided because it was clunky or unrewarding. In First Light, however, James Bond’s identity makes direct confrontation not only viable but a deliberate style of play.
“We wanted a system that is technically solid, mechanically deep, but also fluid and responsive,” Krogh said. “Even if you try to sneak and fail, the fight that follows should still feel exciting and intentional.”
Freedom of Choice
The team’s goal is to let players decide how to approach missions: sneak through undetected, or storm in guns blazing. Both options will be fully supported, ensuring flexibility in gameplay.
Gadgets That Matter
Bond’s gadgets will also be central to the experience—not just gimmicks, but practical, realistic, and fun tools.
“Each gadget should have a clear purpose, feel unique, and be reusable in different situations,” Krogh explained.
From innovative devices to creative mechanics, the arsenal will allow players to craft their own playstyle. By combining meaningful gadgets with strong combat mechanics, 007: First Light is shaping up to deliver an authentic Bond fantasy that balances stealth with thrilling action.
