A surprising revelation about Grand Theft Auto VI has caught the attention of the gaming community: India now leads the development effort for one of the most anticipated games in history.

According to internal data, more than 1,600 developers from Rockstar India are currently working on GTA 6 — the largest team across all 10 Rockstar studios involved in the project. In total, around 6,000 developers are contributing to the game’s creation.

For comparison, Rockstar North, the studio traditionally at the helm of the GTA franchise, currently employs 1,285 developers, followed by Rockstar Lincoln with 910, and Rockstar New York with 750.

This marks a historic shift in Rockstar’s global development structure, positioning Rockstar India as a central powerhouse within the company’s production ecosystem. The studio, based in Bangalore, has reportedly handled major tasks such as environment design, animation, and optimization for next-gen hardware.

As GTA 6’s development continues to push industry boundaries, Rockstar’s decision to expand its international workforce—particularly in India—highlights the increasing importance of global collaboration in shaping the future of blockbuster game development.
