Microsoft has officially revealed the long-rumored Halo: Combat Evolved Remake, now titled Halo: Campaign Evolved, set to release in 2026. The remake reimagines the legendary original campaign with modern visuals, cinematic storytelling, and refined gameplay systems for current-generation platforms.

The game will launch on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and — for the first time in the franchise’s history — PlayStation 5, marking a new chapter for the iconic series.

Among the biggest updates, the campaign has been rebuilt from the ground up using cutting-edge technology to deliver high-definition visuals, enhanced lighting, and modern cinematic presentation. The level design has also been refined for smoother pacing and exploration.

The remake adds three new prologue missions featuring Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson, expanding the backstory leading up to the events of the original game. Fans can also expect remastered soundtracks and new voice recordings performed by the original cast.

The weapon sandbox has been expanded with new additions such as the Energy Sword, Battle Rifle, and Needle Rifle, alongside new enemy types, vehicles, and skull modifiers. Players can also hijack vehicles for the first time in Halo: CE — including the powerful Wraith tank.

Combat improvements include the Sprint ability, tighter aiming mechanics, and smoother combat flow — blending the series’ nostalgic feel with modern FPS standards.

The remake supports single-player, local split-screen co-op for two players, and online co-op for up to four players, with cross-play and shared progression across all platforms.

With this remake, Xbox aims to reintroduce Halo to a new generation while preserving what made it a defining title in gaming history.
