Bloodborne Is Getting an R-Rated Animated Movie, With Jacksepticeye Producing
Sony Pictures has officially announced a feature-length animated adaptation of Bloodborne, and the project is already drawing attention for one key reason: it is being developed as an R-rated film rather than a toned-down version of FromSoftware’s brutal gothic action RPG. The announcement was made during Sony’s CinemaCon 2026 presentation, where the studio positioned the movie as a faithful take on one of PlayStation’s most beloved cult titles.

The film is being produced by PlayStation Productions, Lyrical Animation, and content creator Seán McLoughlin, better known as Jacksepticeye. Reports also say that Lyrical Media, the parent company of Lyrical Animation, is co-financing the project with Sony Pictures. That producer lineup has made the announcement even more notable, especially with Jacksepticeye involved as a longtime fan closely associated with the game.

Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group president Sanford Panitch said the adaptation will stay “very true” to the spirit of Bloodborne, signaling that the movie will aim to preserve the game’s harsh violence, oppressive atmosphere, and unsettling creature design. That direction makes sense for a property built around nightmare imagery, decaying gothic architecture, and the infamous descent into the horrors of Yharnam.

For now, however, Sony is keeping most of the major details under wraps. There is still no confirmed information on the film’s plot, director, screenwriter, voice cast, or release date. What is clear is that Sony sees Bloodborne as another major step in its expanding game-to-screen strategy, and this adaptation immediately stands out because animation may be the ideal format for capturing the game’s scale, grotesque imagery, and uncompromising tone.
