The Witcher 3 Returns with Songs of the Past: New Geralt Expansion Announced for 2027

CD Projekt Red has officially announced a new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt titled Songs of the Past, bringing players back once again to the world of Geralt of Rivia in a completely new adventure. The expansion is scheduled to release in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The announcement follows a period of speculation surrounding the 11th anniversary celebration of The Witcher 3, as many fans expected either a third expansion or a new look at The Witcher Remake. Surprisingly enough, this time the leaks turned out to be closer to reality than expected.

Songs of the Past serves as the third major expansion for The Witcher 3 following Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, both of which are widely considered among the greatest expansions in RPG history. The new expansion will once again place Geralt in the lead role for an entirely new story that has yet to be revealed.

The expansion is being developed in collaboration with Fool’s Theory, the same studio currently working on The Witcher Remake. CD Projekt Red confirmed that the team includes experienced developers who previously worked on The Witcher 3, giving the project a direct connection to the spirit and identity of the original game.

One of the most notable details is that the expansion will not be released on previous-generation hardware. It will only be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. This means PS4 and Xbox One owners will not receive the new content, suggesting that the expansion is being built to take advantage of modern hardware capabilities.

So far, CD Projekt Red has not revealed any story details, gameplay information, or an exact release date, but the company confirmed that more information will be shared in late Summer 2026.

Geralt’s return after all these years comes as a major surprise for fans of the franchise, especially considering that The Witcher 3 remains one of the most important RPGs in gaming history. The question now is whether Songs of the Past will serve as Geralt’s final farewell or as the beginning of a new chapter in The Witcher universe.
