State of Play 2026 Recap: Wolverine, God of War Laufey, Silent Hill, Tomb Raider and Major PS5 Reveals

Sony delivered a strong State of Play 2026 episode, lasting nearly an hour and featuring a wide range of new announcements and reveals for PlayStation 5 games. The episode brought together major titles players have been waiting for, surprise announcements for new games, and release dates for several important releases. In short, it was packed enough to make the upcoming release calendar even more crowded than a backlog left untouched since the last sale.

The biggest highlight was Marvel’s Wolverine, as the game received an extended showcase revealing more of its atmosphere and action style. The presentation gave players a clearer look at Wolverine within the game’s world, while confirming that the release is planned for PS5 in September.

The biggest surprise was the announcement of God of War Laufey, a new spin-off from the God of War universe. This time, however, Kratos will not be the main character, as the game will focus on Faye, his wife. According to the details mentioned, the game will begin around a point close to the events of God of War 2018, and may reveal new sides of Faye’s past and her connection to the series’ world.

One of the announcements that drew major attention came from Capcom, which revealed the release date for Onimusha: Way of the Sword. The game received a new gameplay trailer, with its official launch confirmed for September 25, 2026 on PS5. A playable demo was also announced to be available on the same day. An instant demo announcement? A rare event worth documenting before the industry changes its mind and asks us to pre-order the start button.

For fans of classic adventures, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis appeared with a new trailer highlighting Lara Croft’s return with a more modern approach to action and exploration. The game is coming to PS5 on February 12, 2026. Dynasty Warriors 3 Complete Edition Remastered was also showcased and is planned for release in October 2026, alongside the driving game Stuntman: Hollywood, which draws inspiration from high-risk chase scenes in Hollywood movies.

Phantom Blade Zero also appeared with a new trailer focused on gameplay, offering a clearer look at its fast-paced combat style and action RPG elements. The game has been delayed to October 29, 2026.

From the Marvel universe as well, the fighting game MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls appeared with a new announcement revealing four additional characters. The new characters come from the villain side of the Marvel universe, which may give the game more variety in both combat style and character selection.

As for Ubisoft, it officially announced Rayman Legends Retold for PS5. The new version will present the game with redesigned 3D visuals, additional content, and an updated visual experience. It is scheduled for release on August 27, 2026.

The episode also featured the reveal of Banco the Chef, a new adventure game from the developers of Dave the Diver. The announcement did not reveal many details, but it offered a first look at a project that seems different and lighter compared to several of the major titles shown during the same episode.

On the action side, Kemuri: Hunt the Unseen was announced by the UNSEEN team. The game revolves around hunting evil spirits. It is still in development and is planned for release this year.

Horror and survival games also had a clear presence. The Lost Wild was showcased and is coming in 2027.

This was shown alongside a new trailer for Silent Hill: Townfall, which received a set release date of September 24.

The horror game ILL also appeared with a new trailer and a planned release in 2027.

In addition, Until Dawn 2 was surprisingly announced, and it is also planned for release in 2027.

CONTROL Resonant was also officially announced and is scheduled for release on September 24, 2026.

The episode also included several important updates for other titles. No Rest for the Wicked will launch in its full version in October on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Meanwhile, Dune Awakening received a new trailer, with its release date set for September 22 and pre-orders now open.

Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve also appeared with a new trailer focused on the story and aerial battles, with its release date set for October 2. The trailer presented glimpses of the characters and events, alongside cinematic flight and combat scenes.

In the end, State of Play 2026 can be described as one of the most announcement-packed episodes for PS5 owners. Between Marvel’s Wolverine, Silent Hill: Townfall, Onimusha, Tomb Raider, and God of War Laufey, players got a diverse mix of action, horror, adventure, and cinematic games. Some titles still need deeper details, but the episode successfully delivered a release lineup that will make the coming period extremely busy for PlayStation fans.
