Hogwarts Legacy 2 Officially Confirmed as Avalanche Software Develops a New Online Multiplayer RPG
Warner Bros. has finally provided official confirmation that a second installment of Hogwarts Legacy is part of its upcoming games strategy, ending years of speculation surrounding the future of the hugely successful Wizarding World RPG. The confirmation came through a recent shareholder letter, where the company specifically referenced a second Hogwarts Legacy installment as part of its plans to grow its games business.
The news arrives roughly three years after the original Hogwarts Legacy became a major commercial success. Warner Bros. has continued to position Harry Potter as one of its most valuable franchises, making a follow-up to the open-world RPG an increasingly important part of the publisher’s future gaming lineup.
Despite the confirmation, Warner Bros. has not yet revealed the sequel’s official title, release date, platforms, story, or gameplay details. For now, the project is simply being described as the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy, meaning fans will have to wait longer for a full reveal.
At the same time, Avalanche Software, the studio behind the original game, appears to have another ambitious RPG project in development. Recent recruitment information references a new online multiplayer RPG, with roles focused on building gameplay systems designed for an evolving online environment.
This has naturally raised questions about whether the multiplayer project is connected to Hogwarts Legacy 2. Previous Avalanche job listings have referenced multiplayer frameworks and online RPG development, leading to speculation that the sequel could introduce online functionality or multiplayer elements.
However, there is currently no official confirmation connecting the two projects. Other recruitment information has previously described the Hogwarts Legacy sequel as a single-player Action-Adventure RPG, making it possible that Avalanche is developing Hogwarts Legacy 2 alongside a separate online multiplayer title.
The original Hogwarts Legacy was designed entirely as a single-player experience without online or cooperative gameplay. If multiplayer eventually becomes part of the franchise, it would therefore represent a significant change from the formula established by the first game.
For now, the most important development is clear: Hogwarts Legacy is officially getting a second installment. What remains uncertain is whether Avalanche’s mysterious multiplayer RPG is connected to that sequel or represents another project entirely. Until Warner Bros. reveals more, both possibilities remain open.
