Early media impressions for Resident Evil: Requiem have begun to surface, offering a deeper look at what players can expect from Capcom’s next major survival horror entry. The newly revealed details highlight a strong focus on atmospheric horror, aggressive enemy behavior, and two distinctly different gameplay styles tied to its dual protagonists.


According to journalists who have experienced preview builds, the game features two primary characters: Grace and Leon. Grace’s sections reportedly lean heavily into classic survival horror design, resembling an evolved version of Resident Evil 2 Remake, with tighter spaces, resource management, and heightened tension. In contrast, Leon’s segments feel closer to an upgraded take on Resident Evil 4 Remake, blending horror with heavier action and more aggressive combat options.



Leon’s arsenal appears especially brutal. He can wield a deadly hand axe, pick up environmental axes, and perform cinematic finishing moves. Reports also confirm that Leon has access to a chainsaw, which can be used both offensively and strategically during encounters.


Grace, meanwhile, relies more on survival tactics. She possesses a dedicated close-quarters shove ability that allows her to push zombies away, creating openings to escape or reposition during tense situations.



Environmental interaction plays a major role in combat. Players can shoot chainsaws out of enemy hands, causing the spinning blade to drop onto the ground, where it continues to rotate and shred anything that comes near it, including enemies or the player. Additionally, chainsaws can be embedded directly into zombie bodies, resulting in enemies stumbling around with the blade lodged inside them or becoming stuck to walls.


Resident Evil: Requiem also introduces multiple large-scale stalker enemies that relentlessly pursue players throughout the story. One of these creatures, known as Chunk, is so massive that it can block entire hallways with its body, forcing players to carefully navigate the corridors of the Rhodes Hill facility to avoid being cornered.


Another stalker takes the form of a towering seven-foot-tall butcher-like figure wielding an oversized cleaver, designed to instill constant pressure and fear during exploration.



The Rhodes Hill medical facility itself is described as having a complex, interconnected layout reminiscent of the iconic mansion from Resident Evil, emphasizing backtracking, puzzle-solving, and environmental storytelling.


Enemy behavior has also received a major overhaul. Zombies reportedly retain traces of their former lives, with some speaking if their transformation is recent. Players can exploit this behavior as part of combat or stealth strategies.


Adding another layer of tension, defeated zombies may reanimate into Blister Heads, a more dangerous evolution inspired by Crimson Heads. These upgraded enemies are faster, tougher, and significantly more difficult to eliminate.



Taken together, these impressions suggest that Resident Evil: Requiem is aiming to merge classic survival horror roots with modern action-driven design, delivering a darker, more aggressive, and highly dynamic experience.
